Visconti-Sforza Pierpont Morgan Tarocchi Deck

The Visconti-Sforza Pierpont Morgan Tarocchi Deck reproduces surviving fifteenth-century tarocchi cards from Milan, Italy. The 78-card deck comprises full-color facsimiles of 74 extant originals and four carefully recreated cards missing from the original set: The Devil, The Tower, Three of Swords, and Knight of Coins. Unnumbered and untitled, the cards use allegorical imagery depicting daily life in medieval Milan.

This edition adds two bonus portrait cards of Bianca Maria Visconti and Francesco Sforza, bringing the pack to 80 cards. It comes in a deluxe hinged box with an expanded 60-page guidebook by Stuart R. Kaplan, illustrated in color with the tarocchi cards.

HISTORICAL PRESERVATION: The 74 surviving original hand-painted cards are held in three archives: 35 at The Morgan Library & Museum in New York, 26 at the Accademia Carrara, and 13 at Casa Colleoni in Bergamo, Italy.
