About

Space Camp is a deeply personal manifestation of the imaginations of Nicole Miller and Henry Aesoph, the creators of fragrance brand BLACKBIRD. The duo both grew up in the Pacific Northwest living on sailboats, skateboarding, making art and always searching for something greater than their wildest dreams.

The idea for Space Camp started in 2019 when working on a collaboration with Brandywine Coffee Roasters. The idea of 'childhood lost' hit home and sparked endless conversations about how they could recapture that feeling without succumbing to the trend of 'adulting' or the boredom of the 'outdoor industry.'

Over COVID, they bought a Mitsubishi Delica L300 Starwagon (Kylo Van), a set of titanium camp cookware and sporks, and a Snow Peak burner, and hit the road with their family in tow. Shortly after, they were inviting friends to socially distant parking lot ramen dinner parties and setting up tents in local parks to play cards, pick berries and take naps in the sun.

Space Camp started as a shop-in-shop on the BLACKBIRD website and was a hit from day one. They featured products designed by their friends Wonder Valley and Neandertal, and other brands that inspired them at the time. They also made sci-fi inspired double-walled coffee mugs and bottles with local Seattle neighbor Miir.

Fast forward to 2023, Nicole's notebooks were full of ideas for an autonomous Space Camp webstore. There would be Space Campers, Space Rangers and Space Scouts, and 50% of the site would be original content designed by Space Camp to field test the products and demonstrate the art of absurd immature fun.

Space Camp is a work in progress that will remain a work in progress until the end of times. It's not about space and it's not about camping, but somehow both if you use your imagination. The goal is to have fun and to never know the time.
