A nurse practitioner and self-described nerd, Rodgers began mixing her own polish in 2011 after growing bored with the colors available from mainstream brands. The brand launched in February 2012 as Paint Box Polish, rebranded to STELLA CHROMA in 2017, and draws inspiration for its glitters, holos, and shimmers from fashion, fandoms, and the latest trends.
