Luigi Serafini by Edoardo Pepino
Luigi Serafini traces the artist’s creative journey and his relationship with publisher Franco Maria Ricci, the first editor of Serafini’s Codex Seraphinianus. Illustrated with works from Serafini’s archive and the Franco Maria Ricci Foundation’s art and book collection, the volume brings together his paintings and sculptures, including familiar Codex Seraphinianus plates and previously unpublished work.
Three chapters by Pietro Mercogliano form a backward biography, moving through time and space to explore Serafini’s unpredictable, multifaceted practice. The text and images are linked by allusions, ironic and self-deprecating quotations, jokes, and visual and verbal surprises.
An introduction by Labirinto della Masone director Edoardo Pepino examines Serafini’s connection to Franco Maria Ricci. The book also accompanies an exhibition at the Labirinto della Masone, listed in the source as beginning March 29.
