The Swan, No. 15 comes from Hilma af Klint's 1914–1915 series exploring duality and the union of opposites. The series begins with recognizable swans and gradually dissolves into pure geometry. Here, the theme is expressed through a precise arrangement of a circle within a square.

Swedish artist Hilma af Klint (1862–1944) was painting radical abstraction years before Kandinsky or Mondrian, guided by her interest in spiritualism and the unseen world. She kept most of her work private and asked that it not be shown until at least 20 years after her death. Today she is recognized as one of the pioneers of abstract art.
