Hilma af Klint - Altarpiece, No. 2 - Magnet

Altarpiece, No. 2 belongs to Hilma af Klint's 1915 Altarpieces series, the finale of her monumental Paintings for the Temple. It features a radiant orb set within a triangle, surrounded by spirals and bands of color against a dark ground.

Swedish artist Hilma af Klint (1862–1944) was painting radical abstraction years before Kandinsky or Mondrian, guided by her interest in spiritualism and the unseen world. She kept most of her work private and asked that it not be shown until at least 20 years after her death. Today she is recognized as one of the pioneers of abstract art.
