The Ten Largest, No. 3 comes from Hilma af Klint's 1907 series of ten monumental paintings, each more than three meters tall, depicting the stages of human life from childhood to old age. No. 3 represents youth, with flowing circles, spirals, and organic forms in vivid color.

Swedish artist Hilma af Klint (1862–1944) was painting radical abstraction years before Kandinsky or Mondrian, guided by her interest in spiritualism and the unseen world. She kept most of her work private and asked that it not be shown until at least 20 years after her death. Today she is recognized as one of the pioneers of abstract art.
