ABOUT MOMO

Moses, known as "Momo," is an adorable hippopotamus who was born near Kampala, on the shores of Lake Victoria. Unlike all other hippos, Momo cannot swim because he is very afraid of water. Thus, Momo is always alone; he has no friends. The other hippos, who frolic in the lake, sometimes approach him to try to get him to come and play with them, but it is always unsuccessful.

Momo is very bored and often sad. He walks along the lakeshore, eats juicy fruit he finds at the foot of the trees, and enjoys his free time taking long naps in the sun.

One day, a little boy approached him and asked, "Why are you always alone? Don't you have any friends?" Momo explained the situation to him.

The next day, the little boy returned with a beautiful buoy filled with small, colorful floats. Momo thought the belt was very pretty and quickly put it around his waist. The little boy explained that it was a magic belt, with which he could swim safely without ever drowning, and that he could now go and play with all his friends.

This buoy was indeed magical, as it allowed him to cool off in the lake. But more importantly, it allowed him to have lots of new hippo friends… and a human best friend.

Since that day, the little boy can often be seen riding on the back of Momo the hippopotamus in Lake Victoria.
