Armed With Madness: The Surreal Leonora Carrington by Mary M. Talbot & Bryan Talbot
Armed With Madness: The Surreal Leonora Carrington is a full-color graphic novel by Mary M. Talbot and Bryan Talbot. It follows Leonora Carrington, a surrealist artist and feminist figure, through the 1930s Paris art scene and the upheaval of war.
Leaving a privileged upbringing in prewar England, Carrington enters the Paris avant-garde, encounters Pablo Picasso, Man Ray, and Salvador Dalรญ, and begins a complicated relationship with Max Ernst. As war breaks out and the Nazis invade, the demons that haunt and inspire her work converge with a terrifying psychotic episode. The book portrays her as an heiress, rebel, refugee, and artist whose life took many forms.
