ABOUT THE ARTIST

Henri Matisse combined a modern way of seeing with classical art foundations in pursuit of authentic expression. His familiar subjects included portraits, still lifes, nudes, landscapes, and intimate domestic scenes, rendered with unrestrained color, bold line, and innovative forms. His approach to Modern art changed how the world was viewed and established his legacy as a defining artist of the 20th century.
