1875 Le Petit Cartomancien - Petit Lenormand Oracle Deck & Guide
Le Petit Cartomancien is a 36-card Petit Lenormand deck first published in 1875 by B.P. Grimaud. It differs slightly from more modern Lenormand decks: some cards will be familiar to experienced Lenormand users, while others may be new to them.
Each card is meant to represent someone in a person's life, such as marchand (merchant/businessman), une veuve (widow), or une brune (a brunette). The deck was used in French salons to help navigate the complex, often political relationships maintained by Parisian socialites.
What is Lenormand?
Lenormand is a card-reading system traditionally built around 36 cards, each featuring a recognizable symbol, such as a rider, house, tree, or key. Named after French fortune-teller Marie Anne Lenormand, it is distinct from tarot: meanings are developed through combinations of cards and their positions in a spread, rather than interpreting each card in isolation. Readings typically focus on practical questions about everyday life, relationships, work, and circumstances.
